New to the game includes the slime mechanic, which is a feature that allows you to beef up your special attacks, cancel attacks, air dash, and use super attacks (similar to the Final Smash moves in the Super Smash Bros. However, due to analog movement being available, this adds the availability for side light, strong, and special attacks, which was a movement option unavailable for the previous game due to that game's digital input system. Wave dashing, wave landing, grabbing and throwing, jumping, blocking, and air dashing also return. Many mechanics from the previous entry return, such as the use of light up, down, and neutral attacks and specials, alongside strong attacks (which can now be charged). Up to four players can play locally and/or online.
Like with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a platform fighter, a sub-genre of fighting games that utilize free-movement on platformed stages where the goal is to knock opponents off of the screen into hidden blast zones.
